If you are a new to Seattle or thinking of moving here, be sure to make time to attend of the area's wonderful and varied events. It's a great way to have fun, to learn about the heritage, culture and people who live here, and to become part of the community. Many of these annual events are family traditions that are enjoyed year after year.
Bite of Seattle
This culinary festival on the grounds of the Seattle Center allows you to sample the best from more than 50 Seattle restaurants. There is also wine and beer tasting, celebrity chefs, and over 150 acts on eight outdoor entertainment stages.
Bumbershoot, the Seattle arts festival, is a showcase for international, national and regional artists in music, dance, theater, visual and literary arts, and comedy.
Enumclaw Street Fair
Bring the whole family to Enumclaw in July to enjoy old-fashioned, small town hospitality and fun. Kids' activities, pony rides, artists and craftspeople, farmers market, live entertainment, food and picturesque views of beautiful Mt. Rainier.
Plan for some fun at the Seattle Center in September, with a celebration of Mexican and Latin American independence featuring dance, music, food and children's activities.
Celebrate African and African-American history, art and culture at the Festival Sundiata. Performances feature jazz, gospel, blues and Caribbean music, dance and drama.
The Folklife Festival celebrates America's cultural and ethnic heritages with artists, craftspeople, musicians, dancers and great cooks who share their traditions through performances, exhibits, demonstrations and workshops.
Puget Sound Bird Fest
Come to scenic Edmonds on Puget Sound, 20 minutes north of Seattle, for bird watching opportunities, guided walks, field trips, educational activities for children and adults, arts and crafts, exhibits, and speakers.
Salmon Homecoming Celebration
A celebration of the cultural, spiritual and economic significance of salmon to the Pacific Northwest. Event features a Native American powwow, dancing, storytelling, arts and crafts, and a fun-run.
Scottish Highland Games
Held every July at the King County Fairgrounds in Enumclaw, the Highland Games features bagpiping competitions, athletic events, a parade of clans, Scottish food and art booths.
A long-standing local tradition, Seafair is an international festival celebrated in Seattle each summer. Events include the innovative Milk Carton Derby on Green Lake, a spectacular Torchlight Parade through downtown Seattle and the hydroplane races on Lake Washington.
Seattle Cherry Blossom and Japanese Cultural Festival
This festival is the oldest and largest Japanese cultural event in the Northwest. Festivities include a broad spectrum of traditional performing arts, crafts, displays and demonstrations.
